Ford Explorer Trim Levels

To begin, we thought a rundown of the 2020 Ford Explorer trim levels would be a great way to learn about the customizability of this model. Each trim holds true to core values of the SUV, such as performance, reliability, and safety while adding their own sense of style and everyday usability.

The Ford Explorer XLT is the first trim that you can select. Like many other base trims in the Ford vehicle lineup, the XLT comes packed with features from driver-assistance technology to infotainment connectivity.

After the XLT, the remaining trims include:

  • Limited
  • ST
  • Platinum

Choosing Your Performance Output

The Ford Explorer is always a reliable SUV whether you're going on a road trip or are shuttling the kids to practice. Thanks to 3 unique engines, you can create the performance that best matches your day-to-day activities.

The first motor is a 2.3L EcoBoost® 4-cylinder that is able to generate 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. You can further improve the power by going with the 3.0L V6 motor, which produces 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque in the ST trim configuration. The last motor would be the 3.3L Hybrid.

A 10-speed automatic transmission will be mated to each engine. At most, your SUV will be able to reach a maximum towing capacity of 5,600 pounds.

Lastly, the drivetrain will be either rear-wheel drive or an intelligent four-wheel drive setup.

Passenger & Cargo Dimensions

Making sure you have room in the trunk for cargo or luggage is sometimes as important as having room for 3 rows of passengers. Thankfully, the Ford Explorer offers the best of both worlds.

Passengers will appreciate dimensions, such as the headroom, which measures 40.7 inches in the first row, 40.5 inches in the second row, and 38.9 inches in the third row. As for legroom, you'll enjoy:

  • 43 inches of front legroom
  • 39 inches of middle legroom
  • 32.2 inches of rear legroom

The maximum passenger volume measures 152.7 cubic feet. As for cargo capacity, you'll enjoy a maximum of 87.8 cubic feet of space with the second and third rows folded flat. With all the seats in use, there's still 18.2 cubic feet of space to work with!
